There is very little that brings me as much joy as showing the light to people wishing to shine. Allow me to guide you to shine more brilliantly, more significantly, and more inspiring.

What is Filial Play Therapy?

Originally conceptualised and developed in the 60s, Filial Therapy (FT) aims to strengthen the existing bond between children and their caregivers through focussed, intentional play.

Through these play sessions, adults learn to understand the kids by understanding their language, and their world, and the children learn to express their emotions, develop the skills needed to solve problems, and increase their self-confidence.

We teach parents 8 specific principles to help their children live their best lives.

You will earn how to:

  • Develop a warm, caring relationship through genuine interest in your child.
  • Experience unqualified acceptance of the child as they are.
  • Create a feeling of safety and permissiveness in the relationship so the child feels free to explore and express self completely.
  • Learn how to be sensitive to the child’s feelings through reflective listening.
  • Believe deeply in the child’s capacity to act responsibly, while respecting their ability to solve their own personal problems.
  • Allow the child to follow their inner direction to also lead in areas of the relationship and resists the urge to direct.
  • Appreciate the gradual nature of the child’s process.
  • Establish only those therapeutic limits, which help the child accept personal and appropriate relationship responsibility.

Course details – how we teach:

  • 8 x online group sessions
  • 2 hours a week
  • 1 x live session, one-on-one, with Ilze for feedback
  • Please note that we maintain small groups of no more than 20 parents at a time.

Why Ilze?

Ilze received her FT training through the American Play Therapy Association in 2004 and has since trained hundreds of parents and teachers in this impactful intervention. After a short break to focus on her business, she once again looked to FT when her first granddaughter, Leila was struggling with her parents’ relocation to Cape Town.

Her passion for people, and creating beautiful families, is what motivates her to now continue this work for other families in similar situations.
